SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Thomas P. "Cotton" Campbell of Benld, formerly of Gillespie, who passed away on August 21, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Thomas P. Campbell was born on November 4, 1916 in Gillespie; he was the son of the late John P. and Catherine M. (McMahon) Campbell; he married Mildred Falke in June of 1941; they divorced in 1966; he married Tillie P. (Costa) Gaudio on June 21, 1969 in Carlinville; and

WHEREAS, Thomas P. Campbell was a retired coal miner, steel worker, and maintenance engineer for Alton State Hospital; and

WHEREAS, Thomas P. Campbell was a member of the Macoupin County Board for 20 years; he was a former alderman for the City of Gillespie; he was a former secretary for the Progressive Mine Workers of America and the United Steelworkers; he was also a former president of the Benld Senior Citizens and an amateur boxer; and

WHEREAS, Thomas P. Campbell was a member of the Litchfield Moose Lodge and the Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 217 of Benld; and

WHEREAS, Thomas P. Campbell was preceded in death by his parents; his son, John Campbell; and his brothers, James and John "Star" Campbell; and

WHEREAS, Thomas P. Campbell is survived by his wife, Tillie; his daughter, Pat Matevey and husband, Gary; his stepson, Darrel Gaudio; his stepdaughter, Joeen Tallman and husband, Kent; his daughter-in-law, Yvonne Campbell; his grandchildren, Carlene Diaz and husband, Richard, Natalie Bared and husband, Victor, and Jolene Bosch and husband, Ashley; his six great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; his three step-great-grandchildren; and his brother, Pat Campbell and wife, Irene; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Thomas P. Campbell; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Thomas P. Campbell as an expression of our sympathy.
