SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Della Merna of Canton, who passed away on February 28, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Della Lou Merna was born in Galesburg on March 8, 1931, to Eugene and Della (Peacock) DeWitt; she married William Merna on September 3, 1949, in Peoria; and

WHEREAS, Della was a loving mother, grandmother, and homemaker; she worked for Multi-Ad in Peoria and Canton School District 66 in the cafeteria; and

WHEREAS, She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Canton, where she baked for and helped with the funeral dinners; and she was co-chair of the International Knights of Columbus Camporee; and

WHEREAS, Preceding Della Merna in death were her parents, four brothers, and one sister; and

WHEREAS, Della Merna is survived by her husband, William; her sons, Bill, Timothy (Carol), and Thomas (Lisa); her daughters, Nancy (Larry) Hindle and Phyllis (Lynn) Jarvis; her eleven grandchildren; her seven great-grandchildren; her brothers, Elbert Mose DeWitt, Frank (Joyce) DeWitt, and Larry DeWitt; and her sisters, Bernice Ricci and Evagene Gilchrist; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Della Merna; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Della Merna as a symbol of our sympathy.
