SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of former Illinois State Representative
4 Maureen Murphy of Evergreen Park, who passed away on August 9,
5 2008; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Maureen Murphy was born on November 14, 1952 and
7 was a lifelong resident of Evergreen Park; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Maureen Murphy held a variety of elected offices
9 over the course of nearly three decades; during the 1980s, she
10 served on the Evergreen Park High School Board and as Worth
11 Township clerk; she spent four years in the Illinois House of
12 Representatives, starting in 1993, and was a member of the Cook
13 County Board of Review from 1998 until 2007; she also served as
14 chairwoman of the Cook County Republican Party from 2002 to
15 2004; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Maureen Murphy was well known as an outspoken and
17 tenacious public servant who worked hard to educate the public
18 about the appeals process during her tenure with the Cook
19 County Board of Review; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Maureen Murphy was proud to call herself a
21 conservative, dubbing herself a "conservative feminist" who

1 fought for the sanctity of life and ensuring ballot integrity
2 in Cook County; she was also a devout Catholic who attended
3 Mass daily; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Maureen Murphy is survived by her husband, Jack;
5 her sons, Jason, Shaun, Michael, and Matthew; and her
6 grandchildren, Brennah, Maggie, Jack, and Nathan; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Maureen Murphy will be remembered by all who knew
8 and loved her as a hard-working and passionate wife, mother,
9 and public servant who always fought for what she believed in;
10 therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
12 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
13 her family and friends, the passing of our former colleague,
14 Maureen Murphy; and be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the family of Maureen Murphy as an expression of
17 our sympathy.
