SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Lena Leo Miles, who passed away on June
4 13, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Lena Leo Miles was born on January 11, 1935 in
6 Hillsboro, Mississippi; her parents were the late John Evans
7 and Eular Hall Evans; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Lena Leo Miles was baptized at the Sylvester
9 United Methodist Church at an early age; after receiving her
10 early education at the Sylvester School, she attended the Scott
11 County Training School and graduated from the E.T. Hawkins High
12 School in 1954, where she and her sister were members of the
13 girls basketball team; she continued her education in Chicago,
14 where she received her CNA certificate at Olive Harvey College;
15 and
 
16     WHEREAS, Within a week of arriving in Chicago, Lena Leo
17 Miles began working at Montgomery Ward; she later worked as a
18 seamstress at the Style Craft Belt Company; she was employed by
19 the State of Illinois as a mental health technician; she then
20 worked at Ada S. McKinley as a supervisor until her retirement
21 in 1993; and

1     WHEREAS, Lena Leo Miles was an avid bowler and was a member
2 of the Pate's Drapery Bowling League; she was also a member of
3 the Happy Seniors Club; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Lena Leo Miles was preceded in death by her
5 parents; her siblings, Mary Rasco, John Willie Evans, Joe Sebe
6 Evans, Henry Evans, Lewis Evans, Martha Evans, Edward Evans,
7 Elizabeth Williams, Laura D. Evans, Lee Andrew Evans, and Annie
8 Bell Williams; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Lena Leo Miles is survived by her son, Lawrence
10 Evans; her grandson, Mitchell L. Reed; her sisters, Ruby Rasco
11 and Rena Cleo Bell; her grand daughter-in-law, Nikki Reed; her
12 great-granddaughters, Kanisha, Kyasia, and Kendra; her
13 sisters-in-law, Viola Evans and Beatrice Evans; and her many
14 nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
15     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
16 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
17 her family and friends, the passing of Lena Leo Miles; and be
18 it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to the family of Lena Leo Miles as an expression of
21 our sympathy.
