SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Jesse C. Bankston, Jr. of Waukegan, who passed away on June 10, 2008; and

WHEREAS, He was born on January 20, 1944 in Waukegan and attended North Chicago public schools, where he excelled in athletics and received varsity letters in track, football, and basketball; after receiving an athletic scholarship he attended Yankton College in South Dakota, receiving his B.A. and All-American football honors as a fullback; he was inducted into the Yankton College Sports Hall of Fame in 2006; and

WHEREAS, He taught and coached at North Chicago High School after college; he later entered the insurance field, working for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois, where he retired as a corporate officer after 35 years of service; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Bankston, Sr., and Minnie (Branch) Bankston; and his siblings, Frederick Carl Bankston and Shirley Alemu; and

WHEREAS, Jesse Bankston is survived by his wife, Zora (Pace); his son, Keith and daughter-in-law, Katheryn (Culbertson); his grandchildren, Reese and Jonathan Bankston; his sisters, Lenore Lane, Carolyn Newby, and Sharon Bankston; his brothers-in-law, Seleshi Alemu, and James and Henry Pace; as well as his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Jesse Bankston, Jr.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jesse Bankston, Jr. as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
