SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Virginia May Gambill of Peoria, who
4 passed away on June 8, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Virginia Gambill was born in Detroit, Michigan on
6 November 1, 1926; her parents were Glenn and Sylvia Cieslewicz
7 Stevens; she married Robert Floyd Gambill on June 16, 1956 in
8 Detroit; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Virginia Gambill graduated with a bachelor's
10 degree from Michigan State University and received a master's
11 degree from Wayne State University; she performed her residency
12 at the University of Kansas; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Virginia Gambill was employed as an
14 administrative dietitian at the Evangelical Deaconess Hospital
15 in Cleveland, Ohio from 1956 to 1969 and at the University of
16 Illinois in Chicago in 1970, where she also taught dietary; she
17 was also employed at Riverside Hospital in Kankakee from 1976
18 until 1995, when she retired in Peoria; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Virginia Gambill was a member of the Beta Sigma
20 Phi Sorority, the Professional Business Woman's Club, Zonta
21 International, and numerous Masonic affiliations, including

1 White Shrine, where she was past worthy high priestess, the
2 Order of Eastern Star, where she was past worthy matron,
3 Amaranth, and Pythian Sisters; she was also a devoted member of
4 Second Baptist Church in Peoria; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Virginia Gambill was preceded in death by her
6 husband and her brother, Gerald Stevens; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Virginia Gambill is survived by her son, Blair
8 (Brenda) Gambill; and her granddaughters, Brooke, Breck, and
9 Blakelynn; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
11 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
12 her family and friends, the passing of Virginia Gambill; and be
13 it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the family of Virginia Gambill as an expression of
16 our sympathy.
