SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Vladimir J. "Wally" Suchy of Hinsdale, who passed away on May 29, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Suchy was a family practitioner for 50 years; in addition to treating patients, Dr. Suchy was an avid gardener; Dr. Suchy was born in Chicago and grew up on Chicago's south side where he graduated valedictorian at Linbloom High School; he graduated from Dartmouth College and attended Marquette University School of Medicine (now the Medical College of Wisconsin); and

WHEREAS, Upon graduation from medical school, he was inducted into the United States Navy, where he graduated valedictorian of all naval flight surgeons; as commanding naval surgeon and senior medical officer of the naval air station in Lincoln, Nebraska, Dr. Suchy was responsible for all Naval, Marine, National Guard, and Air Force personnel; while in Lincoln he met his wife of 54 years, Helen; and

WHEREAS, He competed his naval service in 1955 and took surgical residency at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn; after his residency was completed, Dr. Suchy established his practice in Hillside, where he served patients until his retirement; he was on staff at Adventist LaGrange Hospital and was a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians; he was also a member of the American, Chicago, and Illinois State medical societies; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Suchy is survived by his wife, Helen; his sister, Olive Suchy; his son, Kim W. (Terri) Suchy; his daughter, Kathryn Rae Suchy; and his grandchildren, Brett and Laura Suchy; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family, friends, and patients, the passing of Dr. Vladimir J. Suchy; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Vladimir J. Suchy as a symbol of our sympathy.
