SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Walter Durley Boyle of Hennepin, who passed away on April 13, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Walter Boyle was born December 15, 1913, in rural McNabb, the son of Walter Albert and Rey (Durley) Boyle; he married Hazel Marie Hoyle on March 6, 1937, and she preceded him in death on October 2, 1994; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Boyle served with the United States Navy during World War II, including service on Ascension Island; and

WHEREAS, He was a graduate of Poole School, John Swaney High School, the University of Illinois, and the University of Illinois College of Law; he attended Harvard Law School for advanced study; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Boyle was a practicing attorney in Putnam County for more than 70 years, serving as State's Attorney for 40 years; and

WHEREAS, He was a strong advocate of education and established numerous scholarships for Putnam County students; in addition, he served on the Board of Trustees and the Foundation Board for Illinois Valley Community College; he was a strong supporter of Putnam County and Hennepin through his support of charities, including the American Heart Association, St. Margaret's Hospital, and other organizations; and

WHEREAS, He was an active member of Hennepin Methodist Church; he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed duck hunting, wildlife, and a daily walk down the Indian path; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Boyle received numerous awards, including the Hennepin Citizen of the Year award, the Studs Terkel Award, and the Ageless Achievers Award; he was also inducted into the Hall of Fame for Illinois Valley Community College; and

WHEREAS, Walter Boyle is survived by his brother, Francis Boyle; his sister-in-law, Ruth Scarratt; and Marcy McGrady and Jon Bumgarner; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Walter Durley Boyle; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Walter Durley Boyle as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
