SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Walter Durley Boyle of Hennepin, who
4 passed away on April 13, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Walter Boyle was born December 15, 1913, in rural
6 McNabb, the son of Walter Albert and Rey (Durley) Boyle; he
7 married Hazel Marie Hoyle on March 6, 1937, and she preceded
8 him in death on October 2, 1994; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mr. Boyle served with the United States Navy
10 during World War II, including service on Ascension Island; and
 
11     WHEREAS, He was a graduate of Poole School, John Swaney
12 High School, the University of Illinois, and the University of
13 Illinois College of Law; he attended Harvard Law School for
14 advanced study; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Mr. Boyle was a practicing attorney in Putnam
16 County for more than 70 years, serving as State's Attorney for
17 40 years; and
 
18     WHEREAS, He was a strong advocate of education and
19 established numerous scholarships for Putnam County students;
20 in addition, he served on the Board of Trustees and the

1 Foundation Board for Illinois Valley Community College; he was
2 a strong supporter of Putnam County and Hennepin through his
3 support of charities, including the American Heart
4 Association, St. Margaret's Hospital, and other organizations;
5 and
 
6     WHEREAS, He was an active member of Hennepin Methodist
7 Church; he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed duck hunting,
8 wildlife, and a daily walk down the Indian path; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mr. Boyle received numerous awards, including the
10 Hennepin Citizen of the Year award, the Studs Terkel Award, and
11 the Ageless Achievers Award; he was also inducted into the Hall
12 of Fame for Illinois Valley Community College; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Walter Boyle is survived by his brother, Francis
14 Boyle; his sister-in-law, Ruth Scarratt; and Marcy McGrady and
15 Jon Bumgarner; therefore, be it
 
16     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
17 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
18 his family and friends, the passing of Walter Durley Boyle; and
19 be it further
 
20     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21 presented to the family of Walter Durley Boyle as a symbol of
