SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of James L. "Pug" Jones of Springfield, who
4 passed away on December 21, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, James L. "Pug" Jones was born October 19, 1922, in
6 Springfield, the son of George Albert and Henrietta Arnold
7 Jones; he married Evelyn L. Ore on January 23, 1965; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Jim served with the Springfield Police Department
9 for 22 years, retiring as a lieutenant in 1974; he later worked
10 for the Springfield Health Department for 18 years as a housing
11 and environmental inspector, and served as a doorman for the
12 Illinois Senate from 1994 to 2005; and
 
13     WHEREAS, He served in the United States Navy during World
14 War II in the South Pacific, earning several service ribbons
15 and stars in combat zones; he also played football for the
16 United States Navy in Norfolk, Virginia; he was an active
17 member of West Side Christian Church for more than 67 years and
18 a member of Central Lodge 71 AF & AM, Springfield Consistory,
19 and Ansar Shrine, where he served as provost marshal for more
20 than 26 years and was named emeritus provost marshal in 2007;
21 he was a life member of Ansar Legion of Honor and served on the
22 Drill Team, which won national championships; Ansar Retirees;

1 Capitol City Shrine Club; Elks BPOE 158, where he served as
2 exhaled ruler in 1975; and PBA 5, Illinois Police Association
3 Mid State Division; and
 
4     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by two infant sons,
5 Jeffery and Scott Jones; his parents; his brothers, Charles
6 Earl "Mike" Jones, George Leroy Jones, and Robert Arnold Jones;
7 his sisters, Dorothy Lysinger and Mary Evelyn Pennington; and
8 his two infant sisters; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Surviving are his wife, Evelyn; his two daughters,
10 Connie (husband, Steve) Wallace and Carrie (husband, Dan Held);
11 his three grandchildren, Stephen Wallace, Zane Wallace, and
12 Chloe Wallace; his two stepgrandchildren, Maggie and Ellie
13 Held; his brother, Benjamin Jones; and several nieces and
14 nephews; therefore, be it
 
15     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
16 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
17 his family and friends, the passing of James L. "Pug" Jones;
18 and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to the family of James L. "Pug" Jones as a symbol of
21 our sincere sympathy.
