SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James L. "Pug" Jones of Springfield, who passed away on December 21, 2007; and

WHEREAS, James L. "Pug" Jones was born October 19, 1922, in Springfield, the son of George Albert and Henrietta Arnold Jones; he married Evelyn L. Ore on January 23, 1965; and

WHEREAS, Jim served with the Springfield Police Department for 22 years, retiring as a lieutenant in 1974; he later worked for the Springfield Health Department for 18 years as a housing and environmental inspector, and served as a doorman for the Illinois Senate from 1994 to 2005; and

WHEREAS, He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific, earning several service ribbons and stars in combat zones; he also played football for the United States Navy in Norfolk, Virginia; he was an active member of West Side Christian Church for more than 67 years and a member of Central Lodge 71 AF & AM, Springfield Consistory, and Ansar Shrine, where he served as provost marshal for more than 26 years and was named emeritus provost marshal in 2007; he was a life member of Ansar Legion of Honor and served on the Drill Team, which won national championships; Ansar Retirees; Capitol City Shrine Club; Elks BPOE 158, where he served as exhaled ruler in 1975; and PBA 5, Illinois Police Association Mid State Division; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by two infant sons, Jeffery and Scott Jones; his parents; his brothers, Charles Earl "Mike" Jones, George Leroy Jones, and Robert Arnold Jones; his sisters, Dorothy Lysinger and Mary Evelyn Pennington; and his two infant sisters; and

WHEREAS, Surviving are his wife, Evelyn; his two daughters, Connie (husband, Steve) Wallace and Carrie (husband, Dan Held); his three grandchildren, Stephen Wallace, Zane Wallace, and Chloe Wallace; his two stepgrandchildren, Maggie and Ellie Held; his brother, Benjamin Jones; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of James L. "Pug" Jones; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James L. "Pug" Jones as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
