SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of former Illinois Senate doorkeeper Edward H. Sauer of Springfield, who passed away on October 27, 2007; and

WHEREAS, He was born June 1, 1934, in Spaulding, the son of Edward and Edith M. Schewe Sauer; he married Nancy Foreman on October 20, 1956; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sauer was a lifelong resident of Springfield; he worked for the Springfield Police Department, joining it on June 14, 1956, and retiring on May 2, 1988; he was a motorcycle officer, patrolman, beat cop, and then worked in the towing division; he served as Doorkeeper for the Illinois Senate from 1995 to 2007; and

WHEREAS, He attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in Riverton; he was a member of Illinois Police Association, Police Benevolent Association, Aqua Sports Club, and Eagles Aerie 437, where he was a trustee; he enjoyed fishing, gardening, NASCAR, and playing shuffleboard; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Surviving are his wife, Nancy Sauer; his two daughters, Patti L. Sauer (partner, Kim Smith) and Toni M. (husband, Michael) Mitchell; his son, Edward W. (wife, Julie) Sauer; his seven grandchildren, Stephen, Erica, and Madison Sauer and Mykayla, Marcus, Mackenzie, and Madilyn Mitchell; his two sisters, Clara Wright and Edith A. (husband, Lee) Hooper; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Edward H. Sauer; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Edward H. Sauer as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
