SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of former Illinois Senate doorkeeper Edward H. Bell of Springfield, who passed away on April 24, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Edward H. Bell was born May 20, 1949, the son of Archibald and Mary Bell, in Glasgow, Scotland; he immigrated to the United States in 1964 to live with his aunt and uncle in Springfield; and

WHEREAS, After serving in Vietnam, he returned to Springfield to attend Lincoln Land Community College, where he met Sabra Martin; Sabra and Ed were married August 12, 1972, in Mason City; they had two daughters, Katrina Marie and Laura Anne; and

WHEREAS, Ed was a Springfield Police officer for 27 years, retiring as a sergeant in 2003; shortly after retiring, he became a doorkeeper at the Illinois State Senate; he was also a karate instructor with the Kifaru School of Martial Arts and was an avid hunter of deer and turkey; Ed also enjoyed collecting and planting day lilies, riding his motorcycle, and was a bass drummer in the Springfield Highland Guard; and

WHEREAS, Edward Bell is survived by wife, Sabra, and two daughters, Katrina (husband, Stephen) Weber and Laura Bell; Edward is also survived by an aunt and uncle in the Springfield area, along with three sisters and several aunts and uncles in Scotland; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Edward H. Bell; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Edward H. Bell as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
