SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of United States Army Staff Sergeant Robert
4 J. Miller of Oviedo, Florida, formerly of Wheaton, who was
5 killed in action near Barikowt, Afghanistan on January 25,
6 2008; and
 
7     WHEREAS, He was a Special Forces weapons sergeant assigned
8 to Company A, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group
9 (Airborne); and
 
10     WHEREAS, He was born on October 14, 1983 in Harrisburg,
11 Pennsylvania; he was a 2002 graduate of Wheaton North High
12 School; he volunteered for military service and enlisted in the
13 Army on August 14, 2003 as a Special Forces candidate; he went
14 on to graduate the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2005,
15 earning the coveted "Green Beret"; and
 
16     WHEREAS, In 2006, he was deployed with 3rd SFG (A) in
17 support of Operation Enduring Freedom; during this deployment,
18 he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with Valor for his
19 courage in the face of the enemy; he was also promoted to the
20 rank of staff sergeant while deployed; his other awards and
21 decorations include: Army Good Conduct Medal, Afghanistan
22 Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, two

1 Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbons, NATO
2 Medal, Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab and Special Forces Tab;
3 and
 
4     WHEREAS, St. Michael Church and School in Wheaton will be
5 naming a plaza in honor of Sergeant Miller; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Robert Miller is survived by his parents, Philip
7 and Maureen Miller; his brothers, Thomas, Martin, and Edward;
8 and his sisters, Joanna, Mary, Therese, and Patricia;
9 therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
11 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
12 his parents and siblings, the passing of United States Army
13 Staff Sergeant Robert J. Miller; and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Robert J. Miller and
15 his willingness to serve his country, which led to him making
16 the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the family of Robert J. Miller as a symbol of our
19 sympathy.
