SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John Lies of Naperville, who passed away on March 21, 2008; and

WHEREAS, John Lies was born in Aurora and raised in Naperville; during his senior year at Naperville Community High School, he was the State wrestling champion; after graduating from high school in 1966, he went to Western Illinois University and earned his bachelor's degree in education in 1971; his first teaching position was at Ellsworth Elementary in Naperville, where he stayed for three years before he joined Steeple Run Elementary School in Naperville; and

WHEREAS, John Lies served as a physical education teacher at Steeple Run Elementary School for 35 years; for 27 years, he coached boys and girls gymnastics at Naperville Central; he previously coached track and wrestling at Washington Junior High in Naperville; and

WHEREAS, On his 40th birthday, John Lies decided to run in the Chicago Marathon; over the last 19 years, he ran in more than 30 marathons across the U.S.; and

WHEREAS, John Lies is survived by his wife, Jacque; his three children from a previous marriage, his daughter, Deanna; and his sons, Chris and Jeff; his stepson, David Newman; his mother, Shirley Holt; his sister, Cindy Lecas; his brother, Clyde; and his step-granddaughter; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of John Lies; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Lies as an expression of our sympathy.
