SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Robert Burke Hilsabeck of Hinsdale, who passed away on March 29, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Robert Burke Hilsabeck was born February 23, 1923 in Oelwein, Iowa; his parents were Lawrence (Pat) Hilsabeck and Helen Tousley Hilsabeck; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Robert Burke Hilsabeck attended Iowa State University for one year from 1941-42; he was then appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy and graduated as ensign in June of 1945; he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Leyte, CV-32 until the fall of 1948; and

WHEREAS, Robert Burke Hilsabeck studied history and earned his master's degree from the University of Iowa in 1951; he taught for five years in Tipton Consolidated Schools in Iowa before moving to Hinsdale in the fall of 1956; he then taught at Hinsdale Central High School until his retirement in 1985; and

WHEREAS, Robert Burke Hilsabeck was a member and elder of Community Presbyterian Church in Clarendon Hills; he was an avid reader and inventive storyteller and enjoyed writing long, handwritten letters; and

WHEREAS, Robert Burke Hilsabeck was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia Ann Hilsabeck; and

WHEREAS, Robert Burke Hilsabeck is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jeannette Miller Hilsabeck; his sons, Leo (Ellen), Steven (Alison), and Rick; his grandchildren, Elizabeth (Ramon) Navarro, Burke (Elizabeth), Ryan (Liz), and Geoffrey (Johanna); his great-granddaughter, Francesca Navarro; and his many friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Robert Burke Hilsabeck; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Robert Burke Hilsabeck as an expression of our sympathy.
