SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of A. Richard "Dick" Powers of Vernon Hills, who passed away on February 29, 2008; and

WHEREAS, A. Richard "Dick" Powers was born June 14, 1942, in Chicago; he attended St. Leonard Grade School in Berwyn, Fenwick High School, and earned his B.A. from Quincy College and his M.S. from the University of Notre Dame; and

WHEREAS, A. Richard "Dick" Powers was an active member of both his church and community; he had a lifelong love of music, contributing his talents to the children's liturgy at his parish and serving on the Parish Pastoral Council; he served as chairman of the Vernon Hills Board of Fire and Police Commissioners and shared his love of model railroading by setting up the annual Vernon Hills Christmas Polar Express display; and

WHEREAS, A. Richard "Dick" Powers was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Sr. and Bernadine Powers; and

WHEREAS, A. Richard "Dick" Powers was the beloved husband for 27 years of Marianne Powers (nee Fugiel); the dearest father of Kathleen Mary Powers and Anthony R. Powers III; the loving grandfather of Ashton Nikolas Powers; the fond brother of Robert (Dolores), Toni (Tom) Collins, Murrie (Bud) Donovan, and the late Terry (Joan); the brother-in-law of Joan (Bob) Spang, Dianne (Vic) Jankoski, and Rosanne Herring; and the fond uncle of many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of A. Richard "Dick" Powers; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of A. Richard "Dick" Powers as a symbol of our sympathy.
