SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of A. Richard "Dick" Powers of Vernon Hills,
4 who passed away on February 29, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, A. Richard "Dick" Powers was born June 14, 1942,
6 in Chicago; he attended St. Leonard Grade School in Berwyn,
7 Fenwick High School, and earned his B.A. from Quincy College
8 and his M.S. from the University of Notre Dame; and
 
9     WHEREAS, A. Richard "Dick" Powers was an active member of
10 both his church and community; he had a lifelong love of music,
11 contributing his talents to the children's liturgy at his
12 parish and serving on the Parish Pastoral Council; he served as
13 chairman of the Vernon Hills Board of Fire and Police
14 Commissioners and shared his love of model railroading by
15 setting up the annual Vernon Hills Christmas Polar Express
16 display; and
 
17     WHEREAS, A. Richard "Dick" Powers was preceded in death by
18 his parents, Anthony Sr. and Bernadine Powers; and
 
19     WHEREAS, A. Richard "Dick" Powers was the beloved husband
20 for 27 years of Marianne Powers (nee Fugiel); the dearest
21 father of Kathleen Mary Powers and Anthony R. Powers III; the

1 loving grandfather of Ashton Nikolas Powers; the fond brother
2 of Robert (Dolores), Toni (Tom) Collins, Murrie (Bud) Donovan,
3 and the late Terry (Joan); the brother-in-law of Joan (Bob)
4 Spang, Dianne (Vic) Jankoski, and Rosanne Herring; and the fond
5 uncle of many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
8 his family and friends, the passing of A. Richard "Dick"
9 Powers; and be it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to the family of A. Richard "Dick" Powers as a symbol
12 of our sympathy.
