SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of James "Jim" Robert Mansell of Hinsdale,
4 who passed away on February 11, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Jim Mansell was born in Tupelo, Mississippi on
6 August 18, 1929; he graduated from Mississippi State University
7 in 1951 with a degree in Civil Engineering and immediately went
8 into the United States Air Force as a Lieutenant; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Jim Mansell married Alice Ann Appleton in Biloxi,
10 Mississippi on April 26, 1952, and served in Germany from 1952
11 until 1955; upon returning to the United States, he began his
12 lifetime career with Chicago Bridge and Iron Company in
13 Birmingham, Alabama, extending over several states and foreign
14 countries; and
 
15     WHEREAS, He served on the Board of Directors at Harris Bank
16 in Hinsdale and upon his retirement from Chicago Bridge and
17 Iron Company, he was elected Chairman of the Board at Harris;
18 he also served for 17 years as Chairman of the Board at
19 Washington Square Retirement Home; and
 
20     WHEREAS, He loved people and had many friends of all ages,
21 including some very special little buddies; he was truly a

1 Southern gentleman, yet a country boy and outdoorsman; his
2 favorite activity was hunting and shooting skeet; he also
3 enjoyed playing golf at Hinsdale Golf Club and watching the
4 kids' activities there; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Jim Mansell is survived by his wife, Alice; their
6 two sons, Bob (Sallie) and Quint; his five grandchildren,
7 Quint, Amanda, Matthew, Mollie, and Bonnie; his sister, Pat
8 Rowland; and his several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
10 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
11 his family and friends, the passing of Jim Mansell; and be it
12 further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the family of Jim Mansell as a symbol of our
15 sympathy.
