SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Robert J. Mortell of McHenry, who passed
4 away on February 26, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Robert J. Mortell was born on March 5, 1941 in
6 Stockbridge, Wisconsin; his parents were Robert J. and Martha
7 (Eldred) Mortell; he married Donna Jean Everson on September
8 17, 1960 in Menasha, Wisconsin; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Robert J. Mortell graduated from St. Mary's High
10 School in 1959 and the University of Wisconsin in Madison in
11 1963; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Robert J. Mortell was an independent insurance
13 agent; he was the owner of Kent Corp. in McHenry; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Robert J. Mortell served as the treasurer for
15 District 156 and District 15 referendums; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Robert J. Mortell was a longtime member of the
17 Kiwanis Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Catholic Order
18 of Foresters; he served as president of the McHenry Little
19 League; and

1     WHEREAS, In 2004, Robert J. Mortell was the recipient of
2 the McHenry Chamber of Commerce's highest honor, the Frank E.
3 Low Award, in recognition of his lifetime of volunteering; he
4 also delivered the Top Ten Scholar awards for McHenry Middle
5 School, Parkland School, and Montini Catholic School annually
6 for many years; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Robert J. Mortell was an avid sports fan,
8 particularly of the Green Bay Packers, Chicago White Sox, and
9 Wisconsin Badgers; he enjoyed golfing and watching all of his
10 grandchildren participate in their individual sports; he was
11 well known as a sports trivia buff; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Robert J. Mortell was preceded in death by his
13 father and his sister, Kathleen Rankin; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Robert J. Mortell is survived by his wife of 47
15 years, Donna; his mother; his children, Carrie (Tim) Sabatka,
16 Debra (Curtis) Tyerman, Robert (Tammy) Mortell, Kristine
17 (Jason) Hoffmann, and Amy (Charles) Karasek; his
18 mother-in-law, Matilda Everson; his grandchildren, Rebecca and
19 Jeffrey Sabatka, Kayleigh and Brianne Tyerman, Robert and
20 Meghan Mortell, Hannah and Claudia Hoffmann, and Malory and
21 Sloan Karasek; his sisters, Mary Van Stippen, Arlene (George)
22 Mosher, and Joyce (Dan) Gavronski; and his brothers, Tom
23 Mortell and Richard Mortell; and

1     WHEREAS, Robert J. Mortell will be remembered by all who
2 knew and loved him as a dedicated father who gave much of his
3 time to helping others; therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
5 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
6 his family and friends, the passing of Robert J. Mortell; and
7 be it further
 
8     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to the family of Robert J. Mortell as an expression
10 of our sympathy.
