SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Robert J. Mortell of McHenry, who passed away on February 26, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Robert J. Mortell was born on March 5, 1941 in Stockbridge, Wisconsin; his parents were Robert J. and Martha (Eldred) Mortell; he married Donna Jean Everson on September 17, 1960 in Menasha, Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, Robert J. Mortell graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1959 and the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1963; and

WHEREAS, Robert J. Mortell was an independent insurance agent; he was the owner of Kent Corp. in McHenry; and

WHEREAS, Robert J. Mortell served as the treasurer for District 156 and District 15 referendums; and

WHEREAS, Robert J. Mortell was a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Catholic Order of Foresters; he served as president of the McHenry Little League; and

WHEREAS, In 2004, Robert J. Mortell was the recipient of the McHenry Chamber of Commerce's highest honor, the Frank E. Low Award, in recognition of his lifetime of volunteering; he also delivered the Top Ten Scholar awards for McHenry Middle School, Parkland School, and Montini Catholic School annually for many years; and

WHEREAS, Robert J. Mortell was an avid sports fan, particularly of the Green Bay Packers, Chicago White Sox, and Wisconsin Badgers; he enjoyed golfing and watching all of his grandchildren participate in their individual sports; he was well known as a sports trivia buff; and

WHEREAS, Robert J. Mortell was preceded in death by his father and his sister, Kathleen Rankin; and

WHEREAS, Robert J. Mortell is survived by his wife of 47 years, Donna; his mother; his children, Carrie (Tim) Sabatka, Debra (Curtis) Tyerman, Robert (Tammy) Mortell, Kristine (Jason) Hoffmann, and Amy (Charles) Karasek; his mother-in-law, Matilda Everson; his grandchildren, Rebecca and Jeffrey Sabatka, Kayleigh and Brianne Tyerman, Robert and Meghan Mortell, Hannah and Claudia Hoffmann, and Malory and Sloan Karasek; his sisters, Mary Van Stippen, Arlene (George) Mosher, and Joyce (Dan) Gavronski; and his brothers, Tom Mortell and Richard Mortell; and

WHEREAS, Robert J. Mortell will be remembered by all who knew and loved him as a dedicated father who gave much of his time to helping others; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Robert J. Mortell; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Robert J. Mortell as an expression of our sympathy.
