SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James T. Costello of Granite City, who passed away on January 25, 2008; and

WHEREAS, James Costello was born January 14, 1925, in Grand Island, Nebraska; as a child he attended St. Mary Cathedral Church and School in Grand Island; he married Dorothy I. (Leslie) Costello, whom he had know since she was five years old, on September 12, 1945, in Grand Island; and

WHEREAS, He was employed at Metro East Sanitary District with 20 years of service as commissioner and had retired in 1985 from American Car Foundry in St. Charles, Missouri; he had also worked 20 years with the Granite City Housing Authority, as a refinery superintendent with Union Starch and Refining in Granite City, and a traffic manager with Kansas State Ordinance Plant in Parsons, Kansas; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Costello was a United States Army veteran, proudly serving his country during World War II in Normandy and Germany; he was a 50-year member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City, where he was active as a lector and eucharistic minister and the Holy Name Society and Men in Prayer; he was a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Tri-City Assembly 0224, Granite City Elks Lodge 1063, the American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and served many years with the Granite City Library Board; he will be remembered for the love of his family, the love of his church, and all things Irish; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Lawrence P. and Rose Ann, nee Mulick, Costello; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Leo and Marie Costello and Roy and Josephine Costello; and

WHEREAS, The passing of James Costello will be deeply felt by his beloved wife, Dorothy; his two sons and one daughter-in-law, Paul and Karen Costello and Joseph Matt Costello; his daughter, Ruth Costello Cruse; his grandchildren and their spouses, Trisha and Raymond Starks, Matt Costello, Jonathan Costello, Jennifer and Darby Cruse Sanders, Dr. Rachel and Kyle Hummel, Rebecca Cruse, and Sarah Cruse; his five great-grandchildren; and his many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of James T. Costello; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James T. Costello as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
