SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Paul F. Hoffman, who passed away on December 13, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Paul Hoffman was a veteran of World War II; as a member of the Army Air Corps, he served as a B-24 bomber captain, leading his crew through 50 combat missions; and

WHEREAS, After World War II, Paul Hoffman attended Iowa State University, earning his undergraduate degree in forestry; he was awarded the first doctoral degree in plant pathology in Iowa State's history; while attending college, he met his future wife, Jane, whom he married in 1947; and

WHEREAS, Paul Hoffman was dedicated to the cause of plant health; he served as president of Michigan Chemical; after moving his family to Barrington, he joined Velsicol Chemical in Chicago, becoming the company's chairman; he served as a board member of Citizens for Conservation in Barrington for 10 years and served as the organization's president; and

WHEREAS, Paul Hoffman was an active member in his community; he served on the Barrington Plan Commission and the Lake County Zoning Board of Appeals; he was also an active supporter of the Boy Scouts, taking Scouts on various trips and procuring land in Woodstock to be used as a camp; and

WHEREAS, Paul Hoffman was well known for his love of the outdoors; he especially enjoyed taking his family to their property in the Ozark Mountains, working in his yard, and cutting and pruning his trees; and

WHEREAS, Paul Hoffman was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; and

WHEREAS, Paul Hoffman is survived by his children, Betsy Rubak, Mark (Maureen) Hoffman, Lynn (Calvin), and Marcy (Kris) Ludington; and his eight grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Paul Hoffman; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Paul Hoffman as an expression of our sympathy.
