SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Paul F. Hoffman, who passed away on
4 December 13, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Paul Hoffman was a veteran of World War II; as a
6 member of the Army Air Corps, he served as a B-24 bomber
7 captain, leading his crew through 50 combat missions; and
 
8     WHEREAS, After World War II, Paul Hoffman attended Iowa
9 State University, earning his undergraduate degree in
10 forestry; he was awarded the first doctoral degree in plant
11 pathology in Iowa State's history; while attending college, he
12 met his future wife, Jane, whom he married in 1947; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Paul Hoffman was dedicated to the cause of plant
14 health; he served as president of Michigan Chemical; after
15 moving his family to Barrington, he joined Velsicol Chemical in
16 Chicago, becoming the company's chairman; he served as a board
17 member of Citizens for Conservation in Barrington for 10 years
18 and served as the organization's president; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Paul Hoffman was an active member in his
20 community; he served on the Barrington Plan Commission and the
21 Lake County Zoning Board of Appeals; he was also an active

1 supporter of the Boy Scouts, taking Scouts on various trips and
2 procuring land in Woodstock to be used as a camp; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Paul Hoffman was well known for his love of the
4 outdoors; he especially enjoyed taking his family to their
5 property in the Ozark Mountains, working in his yard, and
6 cutting and pruning his trees; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Paul Hoffman was preceded in death by his wife,
8 Jane; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Paul Hoffman is survived by his children, Betsy
10 Rubak, Mark (Maureen) Hoffman, Lynn (Calvin), and Marcy (Kris)
11 Ludington; and his eight grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
13 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14 his family and friends, the passing of Paul Hoffman; and be it
15 further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to the family of Paul Hoffman as an expression of our
18 sympathy.
