| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | | 3 |
| learn of the death of
Thomas Ross Hughes, Ph.D., of | | 4 |
| Collinsville, formerly of Granite City, who passed away on | | 5 |
| January 1, 2008; and
| | 6 |
| WHEREAS, Thomas Hughes was born March 11, 1940 in Granite | | 7 |
| City; his parents were Clyde G. and Rose (Taylor) Hughes; he | | 8 |
| married the former Susan Miller on August 28, 1986 in | | 9 |
| Edwardsville; and
| | 10 |
| WHEREAS, Thomas Hughes served as a professor at Southern | | 11 |
| Illinois University Edwardsville from 1969 until 1986; he | | 12 |
| retired as professor emeritus in 1998; and
| | 13 |
| WHEREAS, Thomas Hughes was the recipient of national awards | | 14 |
| in the area of juvenile delinquency in 1979 and 2000; and
| | 15 |
| WHEREAS, Thomas Hughes was preceded in death by his | | 16 |
| parents; and
| | 17 |
| WHEREAS, Thomas Hughes is survived by his wife, Susan; his | | 18 |
| daughters, Alicia (David) Hayek and Jaime (Bart) Smith; his | | 19 |
| sister, Marion (David) Hughes Coppage; and his grandchildren, | | 20 |
| Ella Rose, Ava Fran, Samantha Noelle, Stella Rose, and Sara |

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL | | 3 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | | 4 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Thomas Hughes; and be it | | 5 |
| further
| | 6 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | | 7 |
| presented to the family of Thomas Hughes as an expression of | | 8 |
| our sympathy.
