SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Illinois State Police officer Brian McMillen of Springfield, who was killed in the line of duty on October 28, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Brian McMillen was born March 15, 1983 in Decatur; he was the son of Terry and Jane Beyers McMillen; he married Angela Pearce on July 22, 2006 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Springfield; and

WHEREAS, Brian McMillen was a 2001 graduate of Pana High School; he received his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of Illinois at Springfield in 2005, where he graduated at the head of his class; and

WHEREAS, Brian McMillen was a state police officer with the Illinois State Police, where he served with poise and distinction from February 2007 until his tragic death; and

WHEREAS, Brian McMillen was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, the Fraternal Order of Police, Trooper Lodge 41, Knights of Columbus Council 896 in Pana, and the Security Forces Defenders Association; and

WHEREAS, Brian McMillen served with the Air National Guard, where he achieved the rank of technical sergeant; and

WHEREAS, Brian McMillen enjoyed playing the guitar and basketball, among many other hobbies; and

WHEREAS, Brian McMillen is survived by his wife, Angela; his parents, Terry and Jane; his siblings, Andrew (Kelly), Adam (Jeanine), Jeremy (Nicole), Julianne (Christopher) Green, and Kelly, Jennifer, Eric, Jared, Wade, and Nicholas McMillen; his nephew, Payton; and his niece, Dorthy; and

WHEREAS, Brian McMillen will be remembered by all who knew and loved him as an exemplary police officer and as a family man whose love for his wife and family was boundless; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Brian McMillen; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Brian McMillen as an expression of our sympathy.
