SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Felipe A. Serna of Naperville, who passed away on October 6, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Felipe A. Serna was a longtime resident of Naperville as well as having a winter residence in Sarasota, Florida; and

WHEREAS, He graduated from the Universidad Nacional de Mexico, and came to Chicago in 1957, doing his internship at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park and his residency at Northwestern University-Evanston Hospital; and

WHEREAS, In 2007 he celebrated his 50th year with the Illinois State Medical Society; and

WHEREAS, He served as Medical Director and Chief Pathologist at Edward Hospital from 1962-1996, Deputy Corner of DuPage County, and as President of Edward Hospital Medical Staff; he will always be remembered as a loving, caring father, brother, and friend; he loved reading, music, world travel, gardening, golfing, and Florida ; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Felipe Serna will be mourned by his wife, Barbara (Porch); his children, Philip (Elizabeth) Serna, Ruth (Fred) Martin, and Laura (David) Smith; his grandchildren, Reed, Brock, and Gabriella Serna; Chad, Natalie, and Madeline Martin; Olivia, Abigail, Carson, Isabel, and Roxie Smith; and his brothers, Jesus Serna, Carmen Serna de Sevilla, Carlos (Donna) Serna, Aida Serna, and Armando (Lupita) Serna; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Dr. Serna; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Serna as a symbol of our sympathy.
