SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Sergeant Jason C. Denfrund, who died on Christmas Day, 2006, defending our country in Operation Iraqi Freedom; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Denfrund was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) in Fort Drum, New York; he was assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, "Golden Dragons", 14th Infantry Regiment in Iraq; and

WHEREAS, Jason Denfrund grew up in Cattaraugus, New York, where he played football and was Captain of the Cattaraugus Central High School football team in 1999; he also attended SUNY Brockport, where he also played football; and

WHEREAS, Jason Denfrund enlisted in the United States Army in June of 2001; he completed basic and advanced training at Fort Benning, Georgia; his first duty assignment was in the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Brigade at Rose Barracks in Vilseck, Germany; in December of 2003 he was reassigned to Fort Drum; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Denfrund was previously deployed to the Balkans and was on his third tour of duty to Iraq; he received the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Kosovo Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Expert Infantry Badge, and the Driver Badge; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Jason C. Denfrund is survived by his wife, Melissa (Sanzone); his daughter, Chloe; and his son, Jayden; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn this brave soldier, proud father, and loving husband and extend to the family and friends of Sergeant Jason C. Denfrund our sincere sympathies at this time; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Sergeant Jason C. Denfrund and his willingness to serve his country, which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sergeant Jason C. Denfrund as a symbol of our respect for his dedication to our country.
