SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Roy Fair of Sugar Grove, who passed away on September 30, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Roy Fair was born July 11, 1935, in Myrtle, Mississippi, the son of Sybil Fair (nee Aston) and the late Roy Fair Sr.; and

WHEREAS, Roy Fair was in the real estate business, beginning in 1959; he started his own company in Aurora in 1963, and achieved a 60% market share in the Aurora market under the Fair & Company flag; he maintained offices in Yorkville, Geneva, Montgomery, Naperville, and Aurora during those years; and

WHEREAS, He served on the Aurora Board of Realtors for many years, becoming its president in 1968 and eventually serving as president of the Illinois Association of Realtors in 1980; Mr. Fair continued to serve the association at all three levels and had finished his 22nd year as a director of the National Association of Realtors; he was awarded the highest honor of the association by being named Realtor of the Year by the Aurora Association in 1973, and Realtor of the Year by the Illinois State Association in 1982; in 2003, he was awarded the coveted Hall of Fame Award from the Aurora Tri-County Association of Realtors for his continuing dedication and service to the industry; and

WHEREAS, As chairman of the National Legislative Committee, Mr. Fair was instrumental in securing legislation to allow the FHA interest rate to float with the market; during his years in the business he built over 400 homes in the Aurora area, purchased, rehabbed, and financed over 100 low and moderate income houses, trained hundreds of real estate agents in the sales end of the business, and developed and managed numerous real estate investments; he carried the prestigious Realtor designation of Certified Residential Broker; he served as chairman of the South Kane County American Cancer Crusade, chairman of the Downtown Aurora Committee of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, director of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, and on Governor Thompson's Task Force on Home Ownership; and

WHEREAS, Roy Fair is survived by his wife, Sue Wiskowski-Fair; his sons, Mike (Laurie) Fair, Terry (Cindy) Fair, and David (Debbie) Fair; his twelve grandchildren, Sandy (Bob) Cary, Susan (Mark) Alsip, Samantha (George) Pilgrim, Garett Fair, Derek Fair, Jared Fair, Shana Fair, Richard Fair, John (Stacy) Fair, Andrea Fair, James Fair, and Selena Hensley; his twelve great-grandchildren; his mother, Sybil Fair; his sisters, Doris (Fred) Moore, and Ann Louise (Sonny) Churchill; and his brother, Billy Fair; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Roy Fair; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Roy Fair as a symbol of our sympathy.
