SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to express
3 their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Wilbur
4 H. Bacus of Alton, who recently passed away; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Wilbur H. Bacus was born July 30, 1909, in Pike
6 County; he was the fifth born of 15 children to James Harvey
7 Maze Bacus and Ola May (Hack) Bacus; he attended Alton's public
8 high school, Theodore Roosevelt High, and played halfback on
9 the Rough Riders varsity football team; and
 
10     WHEREAS, While Wilbur Bacus was attending high school, his
11 father was killed and he chose to leave school and support his
12 mother and younger siblings; he spent summers tending orchards
13 for his grandfather, William Harvey Bacus; he married Wilma Lee
14 (Finley) Bacus in 1942, and then went on to serve as one of
15 seven Bacus brothers in military service during World War II;
16 he was a corporal in the United States Army and participated in
17 amphibious landings in the Pacific Theater; he was decorated
18 for his service to our country; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Wilbur Bacus worked as a machinist at Olin
20 Matheson, retiring at age 65 in 1974; he was a husband, father,
21 grandfather, uncle, brother, son, bowler, gardener, lover of
22 life, church elder, Odd Fellow, athlete, scout committee,

1 coach, GOP, soldier, lifelong student, dancer, Christian,
2 harmonica player, provider, and citizen; he respected all he
3 met, and his word was his bond; he was thoughtful, kind, and
4 ready to help those in need; and he was all-American in every
5 sense of the phrase; and
 
6     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64
7 years, Wilma Lee (Finley) Bacus; his parents; and his 14
8 siblings; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Wilbur H. Bacus is survived by two sons, Steven
10 and Martha Bacus, and Joseph and Sandra Bacus; his
11 grandchildren, Jay Taylor Bacus, and Virginia Elaine Bacus; and
12 by many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
14 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we offer our deepest
15 condolences to the family and friends of Wilbur H. Bacus; and
16 be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the family of Wilbur H.Bacus as a symbol of our
19 sympathy.
