SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to hear of the death of Robert Graul of Alton, who passed away on August 31, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Robert Graul was born on September 19, 1912, in Alton; his parents were Philip C. and Ruth P. (Jacoby) Graul; he married Isabel C. Fundel on March 14, 1936 in Alton; and

WHEREAS, Robert Graul attended Alton schools and was a graduate of Alton High; he received his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Shurtleff College; and

WHEREAS, Robert Graul worked for The Telegraph newspaper for 41 years, retiring in 1977; and he served his country during the Second World War in the United States Coast Guard; and

WHEREAS, Robert Graul was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey, where he participated as a choir member; he was instrumental in the founding of the Alton Museum of History and Art; he was a charter member of the Alton Kiwanis Club; he had a passion for photography and had documented numerous weddings and other special occasions; he was especially proud of photographing the construction of the original Lock and Dam 26 and its replacement, as well as the demolition of the old Clark Bridge and the construction of the new bridge; and he enjoyed woodworking and was an avid river historian; and

WHEREAS, Robert Graul was preceded in death by his wife, Isabel; his parents; and his brother, William Graul; and

WHEREAS, Robert Graul is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Barb Graul; his daughters and sons-in-law, Ginger and Ron Dalton, Barb and Dennis Hammond, and Jeanne Truckey; his grandchildren and their spouses, Ann Graul and Eduardo Valencia, Eric and Erika Graul, Cindy Dalton and Mike Borts, Jeff and Christie Dalton, Christy and Justin Pierce, Laura Hammond, Karen Truckey, and Sarah Truckey; his great-grandchildren, Ines and Oscar Valencia Graul and Amelia and Anders Graul; his sister, Marjorie Howe; his former son-in-law, Bill Truckey; his nieces and nephews; his cousin; and his other extended family and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Robert Graul; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Robert Graul as an expression of our sympathy.
