SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of U.S. Army Captain Joshua E. Steele of
4 North Henderson, who was killed in action near Panjway,
5 Afghanistan on June 17, 2007; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Captain Joshua Steele was born on July 8, 1980, in
7 Galesburg; his parents were R. Philip and Paula Weir Steele;
8 and
 
9     WHEREAS, Captain Joshua Steele was raised on a farm near
10 North Henderson and attended Immaculate Conception Parochial
11 School in Monmouth and Alexis High School; after graduating
12 from high school at the Missouri Military Academy in Mexico,
13 Missouri in 1998, he received his degree in geological
14 engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla magna cum
15 laude in 2002, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi
16 Fraternity and the Society of Military Engineers; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Captain Joshua Steele was commissioned in the Army
18 in 2002 and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri with
19 the 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division Transition Team; he was
20 assigned to the 5th and later the 35th Engineering Battalion;
21 he was previously deployed in Iraq and the Republic of Georgia,
22 before being sent to Afghanistan in January 2007; and

1     WHEREAS, Captain Joshua Steele enjoyed geological
2 pursuits, as well as raising and showing swine, horseback
3 riding, hunting, and life on the farm; he was a member of the
4 4-H and FFA in Alexis, the Civil Air Patrol in Galesburg; and
5 he was vice president of his junior class in high school; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Captain Joshua Steele will be remembered by all
7 who knew him as a bright and industrious young man; therefore,
8 be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
10 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
11 his family and friends, the passing of U.S. Army Captain Joshua
12 E. Steele; and be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of U.S. Army Captain
14 Joshua E. Steele and his willingness to serve our country,
15 which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it
16 further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the family of U.S. Army Captain Joshua E. Steele
19 as an expression of our sympathy.
