SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John Joseph "J.J." O'Doherty of Chicago, who passed away on February 20, 2007; and

WHEREAS, He was born and raised in Rocky River, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland; he was a graduate of St. Edward High School and a 1975 graduate of the University of Notre Dame; and

WHEREAS, John Joseph "J.J." O'Doherty and Mary Staren were married in 1989 on a mountain in Aspen, Colorado; he had many friends and was devoted to both his immediate and extended families; and

WHEREAS, John Joseph "J.J." O'Doherty was one of the early pioneers in the financial markets at the Board of Trade; he began working in the Ginny Mae in 1975 and worked for the Board for his entire career; he traded in various commodities and financial pits and became a full member of the Board of Trade in 1978; and

WHEREAS, John Joseph "J.J." O'Doherty had many hobbies, including a love for cooking; he was a man who appreciated good wine and food; he was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, traveling around the world to pursue this passion; he loved music, especially attending music events and concerts; he loved Lake Geneva, and had a second home and weekend retreat next to the lake where he could be part of the winter and summer water sports; and he loved traveling to new places, experiencing new and different activities; and

WHEREAS, John Joseph "J.J." O'Doherty was the beloved husband of Mary O'Doherty (nee Staren); the loving father of Jack, Taylor, Shea, and Morgan O'Doherty; the devoted son of Maryvonne (nee Rose) and the late Bernard M. O'Doherty; the dear brother of Mary Ann Kollar, Bernard (Kay), Brian (Anne), and Pat (Mary) O'Doherty; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of John Joseph "J.J." O'Doherty of Chicago; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Joseph "J.J." O'Doherty as a symbol of our sympathy.
