SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

105 ILCS 5/10-20.40 new
30 ILCS 805/8.31 new

Amends the School Code. Requires a school board (other than the Chicago Board of Education) to adopt a dress code policy to apply to students beginning with the 2007-2008 school year. Amends the State Mandates Act to require implementation without reimbursement. Effective immediately.

A BILL FOR

AN ACT concerning education.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section 10-20.40 as follows:

(105 ILCS 5/10-20.40 new)

Sec. 10-20.40. Dress code required. Each school board shall adopt a dress code policy to apply to students beginning with the 2007-2008 school year.

Section 90. The State Mandates Act is amended by adding Section 8.31 as follows:

(30 ILCS 805/8.31 new)

Sec. 8.31. Exempt mandate. Notwithstanding Sections 6 and 8 of this Act, no reimbursement by the State is required for the implementation of any mandate created by this amendatory Act of the 95th General Assembly.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
