HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the organizers and performers of the Chinese New Year Spectacular for their work in the Chinese fine arts; and

WHEREAS, The Chinese New Year Spectacular is an event sponsored by New Tang Dynasty Television that celebrates the Chinese New Year and shows appreciation for traditional Chinese culture and art; the performance features world-class performances of traditional Chinese and Western artistry, transporting the audience back in time to ancient China with colorful costumes, graceful dancing, and booming drums to bring Chinese myths and legends to life; the aim of the performers and organizers is to show the true spirit of the Chinese culture expressed in the forms of classical performing arts, giving people around the world a deeper understanding and connection to the Chinese culture; and

WHEREAS, The Chinese New Year Spectacular was started in 2004, with 500 performers and a live audience totaling 10,000 in the cities of New York City, Washington D.C., Taipei, Paris, and Toronto; the 2005 performance featured 1,000 performers and a live audience of 13,500 in 7 cities; in 2006, over 1,000 performers performed for over 46,000 spectators in 17 major cities around the globe; the 2007 performance was held in more than 30 cities worldwide; the 2008 global tour will perform in over 60 major cities around the world for over 500,000 spectators; and

WHEREAS, Over 400 global and local leaders, including President George Bush, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Taiwanese President Chen Shui-Bian, and Vice President of the European Parliament Charlotte Cederschiold, have extended their New Year greetings to the Chinese-speaking population during the 2004, 2005, and 2006 Chinese New Year Global Galas; and

WHEREAS, The dedication exhibited by the performers and organizers of the Chinese New Year Spectacular to display the beauty and grandeur of Chinese art and culture to audiences around the world is awe-inspiring and is worthy of the greatest respect; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the organizers and performers of the Chinese New Year Spectacular for their hard work and dedication to their craft and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to a representative of the Chinese New Year Spectacular as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
