HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate and thank Brother Michael Quirk for his 24 years of dedicated service and leadership to the De La Salle Institute in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Brother Michael Quirk received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Lewis University in Romeoville; he has served as a Christian Brother for 25 years; and

WHEREAS, Brother Michael Quirk began his career with the De La Salle Institute in 1983, accepting a position as a Business Manager; he became the first President of De La Salle in 1989; and

WHEREAS, As President of the De La Salle Institute, Brother Michael Quirk oversaw many important changes that were made to the institution; he supervised the school's change from an institution governed by the Christian Brothers into a separate non-profit organization with a Board of Directors; he also expanded the educational initiatives of De La Salle through his founding of the Tolton Adult Educational Center in 1990, as well as the Lourdes Hall Campus for young women in 2002, which enabled De La Salle to become a co-institutional high school; and

WHEREAS, Brother Michael Quirk has also served on the boards of many non-profit institutions, including Lewis University and the College of Santa Fe; he is also a member of the Chicago Board of Ethics; and

WHEREAS, Brother Michael Quirk is a dedicated family man and was a devoted son to his late parents, Frank and Theresa Quirk; he is proud of his entire family, which includes Teri and Dennis Johnson, Jeannie Johnson, Julie Johnson, Brian Johnson, Mairellen Leverence, Megan and Gary Zerbach, Michale and Abby Leverence, Kevin and Kathleen Leverence, Jim and Kristen Quirk, Lauren and Brian Rose, Colleen Quirk, Randall Quirk, Aunt Jane Quirk, and Sister Jane Martin; he is also very committed to his nieces and nephews and has always given help and support to them as they proceed through their lives; and

WHEREAS, Upon his departure from the De La Salle Institute, Brother Michael Quirk will serve as the first President Emeritus of the De La Salle Institute and as the President of Christian Brothers Services, Inc., positions that will undoubtedly be performed well by this man of great dedication and propriety; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate and thank Brother Michael Quirk for his 24 years of dedicated service and leadership to the De La Salle Institute and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Brother Michael Quirk as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
