HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate University of
4 Chicago professor Roger Myerson on the occasion of winning the
5 2007 Nobel Prize in Economics for his work on mechanism design
6 theory; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Roger Myerson was born on March 29, 1951 in
8 Boston, Massachusetts; he earned his doctorate in mathematics
9 from Harvard University in 1976; after graduation, he took an
10 assistant professor job at Northwestern University, becoming
11 full professor in 1982; he taught and researched at
12 Northwestern until 2001, when he joined the University of
13 Chicago; he also served as a visiting professor of economics at
14 the University of Chicago from 1985 to 1986 and from 2000 to
15 2001; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Roger Myerson received his Nobel Prize for his
17 work on "mechanism design theory", an offshoot of "game theory"
18 that examines how people interact to create private profit or,
19 in politics, social progress; he is also the author of the
20 "revenue equivalence theorem," which maps the connections
21 between parties to transactions so that they are more likely to
22 reveal the parameters of their interests accurately; his work
23 has been extensively quoted by numerous eminent theorists and

1 has been applied to numerous studies of the nature of democracy
2 and voting tendencies in Iraq and other nations; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Roger Myerson and his wife Regina have lived in
4 Wilmette for 24 years; their daughter Rebecca is a Fulbright
5 scholar studying social psychology in Beijing, and their son
6 Daniel is a first-year law student; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Roger Myerson has honored the citizens of
8 Illinois' 18th District by generously sharing his time and
9 considerable knowledge with his neighbors through community
10 events and speaking engagements; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Roger Myerson's contributions to the field of
12 economic and political analysis has been to the great benefit
13 of the staff and students of the University of Chicago, the
14 citizens of the United States, and the world at large;
15 therefore, be it
 
16     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18 congratulate Roger Myerson on the occasion of winning the 2007
19 Nobel Prize in Economics and wish him continued success and
20 happiness in the future; and be it further
 
21     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
