HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of U.S. Army
4 Private First Class Jacob Lowell of New Lenox on June 2, 2007
5 in Afghanistan; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Pfc. Jacob Lowell attended Tyler and Bentley
7 elementary schools and Martino Junior High School; he was a
8 2003 graduate of Lincoln-Way Central High School and was an
9 offensive lineman on the school's football team; he was a
10 member of the 1998 national heavyweight championship New Lenox
11 Mustangs team and was named to the 2002 all-conference team; he
12 attended Saint Xavier University for two semesters before
13 joining the Army; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Pfc. Jacob Lowell was a paratrooper with the 173rd
15 Airborne Brigade; he was stationed in Italy until being
16 deployed to Afghanistan in May 2007; during Lowell's first
17 patrol of his first tour in Afghanistan, he was working as a
18 gunner when his Humvee was ambushed; despite being shot in the
19 leg, he continued to fire his weapon and protect the rest of
20 his unit until he was fatally wounded; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Pfc. Jacob Lowell will be remembered by all who
22 knew him as a selfless, patriotic, and upbeat young man who

1 made people laugh when they were down and as a person who would
2 drop anything he was doing if someone needed his help; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Pfc. Jacob Lowell is the youngest son of Raymond
4 and Bernadine; he also is survived by his siblings, Jennifer
5 and Joseph; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of U.S.
9 Army Private First Class Jacob Lowell; and be it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Private First Class
11 Jacob Lowell and his willingness to serve our country, which
12 led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the family of Private First Class Jacob Lowell as
15 an expression of our sympathy.
