| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Jeffrey Wright on | 4 |
| the occasion of being the recipient of the Gold Hugo Career | 5 |
| Achievement Award; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Jeffrey Wright was born on December 7, 1965 in | 7 |
| Washington, D.C.; he received his early education at St. Albans | 8 |
| School for Boys in Washington, D.C.; he attended Amherst | 9 |
| College in Amherst, Massachusetts, where he graduated with a | 10 |
| bachelor's degree in political science in 1987; after | 11 |
| graduation, he moved on to New York University on an acting | 12 |
| scholarship; he left NYU after 2 months to pursue his acting | 13 |
| career full-time; and
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Jeffrey Wright first received public acclaim in | 15 |
| his role in "Angels in America: Perestroika" in 1994, a | 16 |
| performance which earned him a Tony award; he went on to star | 17 |
| as artist Jean-Michel Basquiat in Julian Schnabel's 1996 film | 18 |
| "Basquiat"; since his spectacular debut, he has performed in | 19 |
| such movies as Shaft, Hamlet, Syriana, Casino Royale, and Lady | 20 |
| in the Water; he also appeared in a remake of Angels in America | 21 |
| for HBO in 2003, where he reprised his role as Belize; he | 22 |
| earned an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and the Black Reel Award for | 23 |
| his performance in Angels in America; and

| WHEREAS, Jeffrey Wright is married to Carmen Ejogo; | 2 |
| together, they have one son; and
| 3 |
| WHEREAS, The Chicago International Film Festival's Black | 4 |
| Perspectives Committee will present Jeffrey Wright with the | 5 |
| Gold Hugo Career Achievement Award at a ceremony on October 13, | 6 |
| 2007; and
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Jeffrey Wright's magnificent talent and | 8 |
| dedication to his craft makes him supremely deserving of both | 9 |
| the Gold Hugo Career Achievement Award and our greatest | 10 |
| respect; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 12 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 13 |
| congratulate Jeffrey Wright on the occasion of being the | 14 |
| recipient of the Gold Hugo Career Achievement Award and wish | 15 |
| him continued success in his future endeavors; and be it | 16 |

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 |
| presented to Jeffrey Wright as a symbol of our esteem and | 19 |
