HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Martin "Marty"
4 Conatser of Champaign on being named national commander at the
5 American Legion convention; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Martin "Marty" Conatser was elected national
7 commander at The American Legion convention in August; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Martin Conatser resides in Champaign with his
9 wife, Sharon; he grew up in Deland, about 20 miles west of
10 Champaign, where he began his American Legion activities as a
11 member of Lincoln Post 102; and
 
12     WHEREAS, His early years were spent working the family farm
13 until it was sold; he then joined the Illinois Army National
14 Guard in 1971, taking advanced infantry training at Fort Polk,
15 Louisiana; he worked in recruitment while serving in the
16 National Guard; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Sharon Conatser is a past president of the
18 Illinois American Legion Auxiliary, as was her mother; her
19 father, Clayborn Lofton, served as Illinois Department
20 commander for The American Legion, making them a true American
21 Legion family; and

1     WHEREAS, Membership growth for the national American
2 Legion is a primary goal of Mr. Conatser; he is a born
3 salesman, and membership growth will show results during his
4 tenure as national commander; he becomes the seventh Illinois
5 Legionnaire to be elected national commander; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8 congratulate Martin "Marty" Conatser of Champaign on being
9 named national commander at the American Legion convention; and
10 be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to Martin Conatser as a symbol of our respect and
13 esteem.
