HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor Reverend Father Anthony G. Tzortzis and the members of Saint Anthony's Greek Orthodox Church in Springfield on the occasion of the church's 50th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The families and friends of Saint Anthony's Greek Orthodox Church will celebrate the church's 50th anniversary on October 20, 2007 at the Governor's Mansion with an evening gala; and

WHEREAS, His Eminence Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago will officiate the Divine Liturgy on October 21, 2007 in commemoration of the event; and

WHEREAS, The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North America and the Springfield community joined hands in 1957 to build Saint Anthony's Church as a cornerstone for the Greek community in the capital city; and

WHEREAS, Father Anthony Saris, Father Constantine Ballomenos, Father Demetrios Lolalakas, Father Basil Apostolos, and from June 1974 until the present, Reverend Father Anthony G. Tzortzis, have served the spiritual needs of the community; and

WHEREAS, Saint Anthony's members are proud of their long-standing heritage and strong community ties; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Saint Anthony's Greek Orthodox Church on the celebration of 50 years of service and fellowship in the Springfield community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Reverend Father Anthony G. Tzortzis of Saint Anthony's Greek Orthodox Church as an expression of our respect and esteem and with best wishes for many more years of dedicated ministry.
