HOUSE RESOLUTION 749

 
2     WHEREAS, Few issues confronting school district officials,
3 teachers, students, and parents are as significant as school
4 safety; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Every student and teacher has the right to attend
6 a school that is safe and secure; and
 
7     WHEREAS, School safety awareness is essential, as well as
8 strategic planning and communication among State school
9 officials, teachers, the Department of State Police, local law
10 enforcement, and communities; and
 
11     WHEREAS, In 2005, Public Act 94-600 was enacted to
12 establish minimum requirements and standards for schools to
13 follow when conducting school safety drills and reviewing
14 school emergency and crisis response plans and to encourage
15 schools and first responders to work together for the safety of
16 children; and
 
17     WHEREAS, The General Assembly believes it is appropriate
18 for the State Board of Education to review the policies and
19 protocols that were implemented pursuant to Public Act 94-600
20 and to make any additional changes to those policies and safety
21 protocols that the Board believes would ensure that school

1 personnel and students are safe in school buildings; and
 
2     WHEREAS, School district compliance with school safety
3 policies and protocols is essential to providing a safe
4 learning environment for our students and a safe working
5 environment for our school employees; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8 urge the State Board of Education to work with school districts
9 to ensure compliance with school safety policies and protocols,
10 and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That the State Board of Education recommend any
12 other changes necessary to enhance the safety of our schools.
