HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Bill Pierce on the occasion of the unveiling of a life-sized bronze sculpture in his honor by the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field; and

WHEREAS, Bill Pierce is considered to be one of the great pitchers in Chicago White Sox history; in the 13 years he spent with the White Sox, he won 186 games, struck out 1,796 batters, and was selected to play in the All-Star Game 7 times, starting the game on 3 different occasions; as a member of the 1959 American League Champion White Sox, he threw four scoreless innings out of the bullpen during the World Series; he retired from baseball in 1964, finishing his career with 211 wins, 193 complete games, and 38 shutouts; he is ranked first in strikeouts and fourth in total wins in the team's history; he continues to serve as an ambassador for the White Sox organization, appearing at various community events on its behalf; and

WHEREAS, Bill Pierce is also known for his continuous work raising money for the Chicago Baseball Cancer Charities, raising millions of dollars for the organization, which have gone toward cancer patient care, education, and research programs; and

WHEREAS, Bill Pierce's congenial personality and upbeat demeanor have made him a favorite of fans throughout the City of Chicago; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Bill Pierce on the occasion of the unveiling of the bronze sculpture in his honor and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Bill Pierce as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
