HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of VFW Rhine Post 2729 on the 75th anniversary of their charter on October 29, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Rhine Post 2729 was originally organized by a group of 21 veterans from the First World War; the post received its charter on October 29, 1932; and

WHEREAS, The 21 original members of Rhine Post 2729 struggled to keep the post operating through the years of the Great Depression, distinguishing themselves by their numerous patriotic efforts and public displays in the Chicago area through the Second World War; after the war, with only 16 members remaining, the post decided to concentrate their efforts on increasing membership, adding over 100 members within a few months; and

WHEREAS, Realizing that the original quarters for the post were too cramped for the swelling membership, the members of Rhine Post 2729 started a building drive, purchasing a new building with a vacant adjacent lot in 1955; the new building attracted more new members and the post continued to grow; and

WHEREAS, Rhine Post 2729 is well known throughout the Chicagoland area for their many community projects, including air shows, visiting veterans in Veterans Affairs hospitals, and essay contests; the post also distributes American flags, safety posters, and Pledge of Allegiance banners on a regular basis; and

WHEREAS, The pride and joy of the members of Rhine Post 2729 is its senior rifle and drill team, which has earned seven consecutive championships; and

WHEREAS, The patriotism and dedication to public service exhibited by the members of Rhine Post 2729 serve as an example for the citizens of the City of Chicago, the State of Illinois, and the nation; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the members of VFW Rhine Post 2729 on the 75th anniversary of their charter, thank them for their public service and numerous sacrifices, and wish them continued success and happiness in their future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to a representative of VFW Rhine Post 2729 as a symbol of our utmost esteem and respect.
