HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Judy
4 Shannon, who passed away on July 28, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Judy Shannon grew up in St. Louis; just before her
6 20th birthday, she married her high school sweetheart and young
7 baseball hopeful, Mike Shannon, in St. Louis; shortly after
8 their marriage, Judy and Mike began traveling through the minor
9 leagues together, until Mike was called to play for the St.
10 Louis Cardinals in 1964; she remained supportive of Mike
11 throughout his career, taking her children to be with her
12 husband during spring training in order to keep the family
13 together; Judy and Mike continued going to spring training even
14 after Mike became a broadcaster in 1972, including their
15 in-laws and grandchildren in their trips; and
 
16     WHEREAS, In 1992, Judy Shannon, with her husband and their
17 daughter, Pat Shannon Van Matre, opened Mike Shannon's Steaks
18 and Seafood in downtown St. Louis; in her free time she enjoyed
19 traveling and the arts; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Judy Shannon was preceded in death by her parents,
21 Bernice and Frank Bufe, and her brothers, Frank Jr. and Robert
22 Bufe; and

1     WHEREAS, Judy Shannon is survived by her husband; her
2 children, Michael (Dionne) Shannon, Timothy Shannon, Patricia
3 Shannon (Gary) VanMatre, Peg Shannon (Dan) Caldwell, Daniel
4 Shannon, and Erin (Kevin) McGowan; her grandchildren, Gary,
5 Timothy, Justin, and Shannon Van Matre, Michael Shannon,
6 Maddoc, Kennedy, Hennessy, and Lochlan McGowan, Ann
7 Williamson, Issac Owsley, Laken Conyers, and Nikki and Luke
8 Caldwell; her great-grandchildren, Andrea, Adam, and Amelia
9 Williamson; her sister; and her in-laws, nieces, nephews,
10 cousins, and friends; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Judy Shannon will be remembered by all who knew
12 and loved her as a loving woman who always put her family
13 first, happily showering them with attention, understanding,
14 encouragement, love, and laughter; therefore, be it
 
15     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17 mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Judy
18 Shannon; and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to the family of Judy Shannon as an expression of our
21 sympathy.
