HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Judy Shannon, who passed away on July 28, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Judy Shannon grew up in St. Louis; just before her 20th birthday, she married her high school sweetheart and young baseball hopeful, Mike Shannon, in St. Louis; shortly after their marriage, Judy and Mike began traveling through the minor leagues together, until Mike was called to play for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1964; she remained supportive of Mike throughout his career, taking her children to be with her husband during spring training in order to keep the family together; Judy and Mike continued going to spring training even after Mike became a broadcaster in 1972, including their in-laws and grandchildren in their trips; and

WHEREAS, In 1992, Judy Shannon, with her husband and their daughter, Pat Shannon Van Matre, opened Mike Shannon's Steaks and Seafood in downtown St. Louis; in her free time she enjoyed traveling and the arts; and

WHEREAS, Judy Shannon was preceded in death by her parents, Bernice and Frank Bufe, and her brothers, Frank Jr. and Robert Bufe; and

WHEREAS, Judy Shannon is survived by her husband; her children, Michael (Dionne) Shannon, Timothy Shannon, Patricia Shannon (Gary) VanMatre, Peg Shannon (Dan) Caldwell, Daniel Shannon, and Erin (Kevin) McGowan; her grandchildren, Gary, Timothy, Justin, and Shannon Van Matre, Michael Shannon, Maddoc, Kennedy, Hennessy, and Lochlan McGowan, Ann Williamson, Issac Owsley, Laken Conyers, and Nikki and Luke Caldwell; her great-grandchildren, Andrea, Adam, and Amelia Williamson; her sister; and her in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and

WHEREAS, Judy Shannon will be remembered by all who knew and loved her as a loving woman who always put her family first, happily showering them with attention, understanding, encouragement, love, and laughter; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Judy Shannon; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Judy Shannon as an expression of our sympathy.
