HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Vickie Miller, Danville Area Community College Board of Trustees Chairperson, on being elected to the office of Secretary of the Illinois Community College Trustees' Association; and

WHEREAS, She was elected unanimously during the Association's annual Board of Representatives meeting on June 9 in Chicago; as secretary, she also will serve on the Illinois Community College Trustees' Association's Executive Committee, with a one-year term that began on July 1, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Vickie Miller is co-manager of the Miller family farm in Indianola and is a lifelong resident of Vermilion County; she was originally elected to the DACC Board of Trustees on November 5, 1991 and was re-elected in 1997 and 2003; she was elected Vice Chair on November 16, 1999, and Chairperson on November 20, 2001, reelected on November 18, 2003, and again on May 15, 2007; and

WHEREAS, She has served the Illinois Community College Trustees' Association in many areas, including: as the East Central Regional Chair; serving on the Women in Leadership Committee, the Government Relations Committee, and the Education Committee; and she was Alternate Representative, 1999-2003; in 2003 she received the Trustee Education Award, and in 2006 she received the Illinois Community College Trustees' Association Trustee Education Award; and

WHEREAS, She is an active member and leader at Calvary Baptist Church; she is also active in the Fairmount Women's Club, having served as President, Vice President, and Secretary; in addition to her community service in numerous organizations, she is a generous community volunteer, giving her time to the Jamaica school district and as an active member of the Festival of Trees Steering Committee; and

WHEREAS, She opens her home and historic farm to various large groups, including Leadership Danville; she is a graduate of Leadership Danville Class of XIII and has co-chaired the annual Leadership Danville Ag Day three times; and

WHEREAS, In recognition of her dedicated service to the community, Vickie Miller received the prestigious Woman of Distinction Award from the Green Meadows Girl Scout Council in 2003; and

WHEREAS, Vickie Miller earned an Associate degree in 1970 from Monticello College (Lewis and Clark Community College), and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from MacMurray College in Jacksonville; she has been employed as an elementary school teacher by the Vermilion County schools, and also has worked as a private school teacher/librarian; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Vickie Miller on her election to the office of Secretary of the Illinois Community College Trustees' Association and wish her continued success in her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Vickie Miller as a symbol of our respect.
