HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the men and women of the Muntu Dance Theatre as they prepare to celebrate a special anniversary; and

WHEREAS, On Saturday, July 14, 2007, the Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago will be celebrating its 35th Anniversary; the gala celebration will take place at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, The program will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will include a performance by Muntu, followed by a catered VIP Gala Reception; Muntu will present the world premiere of a major new work entitled "Guide" by guest choreographer Rosangela Silvestre; and

WHEREAS, Muntu touches more than 90,000 people a year through performances, educational outreach, and classes; the majority of the individuals who participate in Muntu's after-school programs are at-risk students; and

WHEREAS, The Muntu Dance Theatre's programs have opened a whole new world in the arts for thousands of youth throughout the Chicago area; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the men and women of the Muntu Dance Theatre and wish them the best as they continue to provide spirited entertainment and education to the people of Chicago; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the men and women of the Muntu Dance Theatre as a symbol of our respect.
