HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the lives of citizens of the State; and
 
5     WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Ms. Ollie Jones
6 of Zion will celebrate her 100th birthday on July 7, 2007; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Ollie Jones was born in Crossett, Arkansas on July
8 7, 1907; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Ollie Jones confessed Jesus Christ at an early
10 age; she was a faithful member of the African Methodist
11 Episcopal Church of Oakland, California, where she served as a
12 devoted deaconess and usher; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Ollie Jones married Thomas Jones in 1923; together
14 they had two daughters, Doris (the late Owen) Norflis and Osa
15 (the late Pastor H.J. Cook I) Cook; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Ms. Jones and her husband relocated to
17 Sterlington, Louisiana in 1924; they later moved to Oakland,
18 California where Ms. Jones worked as a welder; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Ms. Jones is now a resident of the Sheridan

1 Healthcare Center in Zion; everyone who meets her sees a smile
2 on her face and an index finger that points to Heaven; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Ms. Jones has a family represented by five
4 generations; she has her two daughters, her adopted daughters,
5 Ms. Cassie Gray and Ms. Myrtle Fields; her 6 grandchildren; her
6 15 great-grandchildren; and her 9 great-great-grandchildren;
7 therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10 congratulate Ms. Ollie Jones on celebrating this momentous
11 birthday and wish her good health and happiness in the future;
12 and be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to Ms. Ollie Jones as a symbol of our esteem and
15 respect.
