HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois are pleased to recognize milestone events in the lives of citizens of the State; and

WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Ms. Ollie Jones of Zion will celebrate her 100th birthday on July 7, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Ollie Jones was born in Crossett, Arkansas on July 7, 1907; and

WHEREAS, Ollie Jones confessed Jesus Christ at an early age; she was a faithful member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church of Oakland, California, where she served as a devoted deaconess and usher; and

WHEREAS, Ollie Jones married Thomas Jones in 1923; together they had two daughters, Doris (the late Owen) Norflis and Osa (the late Pastor H.J. Cook I) Cook; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Jones and her husband relocated to Sterlington, Louisiana in 1924; they later moved to Oakland, California where Ms. Jones worked as a welder; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Jones is now a resident of the Sheridan Healthcare Center in Zion; everyone who meets her sees a smile on her face and an index finger that points to Heaven; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Jones has a family represented by five generations; she has her two daughters, her adopted daughters, Ms. Cassie Gray and Ms. Myrtle Fields; her 6 grandchildren; her 15 great-grandchildren; and her 9 great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Ms. Ollie Jones on celebrating this momentous birthday and wish her good health and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. Ollie Jones as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
