HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of U.S. Army
4 Captain Joshua Steele of North Henderson, who was killed in
5 action near Panjway, Afghanistan on June 17, 2007; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Captain Joshua Steele is the son of R. Philip and
7 Paula Steele of North Henderson; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Captain Joshua Steele attended Alexis High School
9 and graduated from the Missouri Military Academy in 1998; he
10 received his Bachelor of Science degree in geological
11 engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla in 2002;
12 while at college, he served as a gold bar recruiter at the
13 university's Stonehenge Battalion; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Captain Joshua Steele entered the U.S. Army in
15 December 2002, where he was assigned to the Army's 1st Brigade,
16 1st Infantry Division (Transition Team) at Fort Riley, Kansas;
17 he was awarded a medal for attaining the highest academic
18 average and scoring 270 or above on the Army Physical Fitness
19 Test; he was serving his second tour of duty in the Middle East
20 region at the time of his death; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Captain Joshua Steele will be remembered by all

1 who knew him as a very conscientious son and as a caring friend
2 to everyone around him; therefore, be it
 
3     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
5 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of U.S.
6 Army Captain Joshua Steele; and be it further
 
7     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Captain Joshua Steele
8 and his willingness to serve our country, which led to him
9 making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to the family of Captain Joshua Steele as an
12 expression of our sympathy.
