HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Barbara J. Popish on her retirement as Assistant Principal of Nightingale Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, Barbara J. Popish has made a difference in the lives of children in the Chicago Public Schools for 34 years; she began her teaching career at Shields Elementary School, then went on to teach at Aldridge Elementary School, Davis School, and Nightingale Elementary School; she taught special education students before moving on to teaching computer science; she served as the technology coordinator at Nightingale School; she was the Assistant Principal at Nightingale School for five and a half years, where she became a sought after administrator and mentor to every teacher at the school; and

WHEREAS, Barbara J. Popish successfully ran school wide projects such as the school newspaper, the TNT, and the Kid Witness News; the KWN won many awards under her leadership; and

WHEREAS, Barbara J. Popish has a long and distinguished record of public advocacy; she advocated for the Anti-Cruelty Society; she represented the teachers on the Local School Council; she authored many grants for Nightingale School, winning money and programs for the students and teachers; and she worked closely with the PTA, linking parents and teachers in partnership throughout her community; and

WHEREAS, Barbara J. Popish is married to the very understanding BJ Parish; she is the daughter of Emma and the late Andrew Popish; she is the sister of Dennis Popish; she is the sister-in-law of Lois Popish; she is the aunt of Dana and Todd Popish; and she is the cousin of Susan and her daughters Kately, Sara, and Lauren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Barbara J. Popish on her retirement and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Barbara J. Popish as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
