HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The citizens of Illinois place a high value on our
3 recreation time and our ability to access one of America's
4 greatest natural resources, its waterways; and
 
5     WHEREAS, In 1928 the word "marina" was used for the very
6 first time by the National Association of Engine and Boat
7 Manufacturers to define a recreational boating facility; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Illinois is home to over 170 recreational boating
9 facilities that contribute substantially to communities of
10 this State by providing a safe, reliable gateway to boating for
11 members of the communities and their welcomed guests; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Illinois marinas also serve as stewards of the
13 environment, actively seeking to protect the surrounding
14 waterways not only for the enjoyment of this generation, but
15 for generations to come; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Illinois marinas also provide Illinois
17 communities and visitors to the State of Illinois a place where
18 friends and families, united by a passion for the water, can
19 come together for recreation, rest, and relaxation; therefore,
20 be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3 Illinois marinas will continue to provide an environmentally
4 friendly gateway to boating for the citizens of this State and
5 visitors to this State; and be it further
 
6     RESOLVED, That August 11, 2007 be designated the sixth
7 annual National Marina Day in order to honor Illinois' marinas
8 for contributions made to the State's communities and to make
9 citizens, policy makers, and employees more aware of the
10 contributions made to Illinois communities by Illinois'
11 marinas; and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That our State join hands with other states and
13 thousands of other waterfront communities all across the United
14 States in celebrating this day.
