HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Reyniesha Sharp on being named the Youth of the Year for the State of Illinois by Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA); and

WHEREAS, Miss Sharp is an nine-year member of the Boys & Girls Club of Alton; in addition to winning this prestigious title, she will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Reader's Digest Foundation; and

WHEREAS, The Youth of the Year program, which has been nationally sponsored by the Reader's Digest Foundation for 59 years, recognizes outstanding contributions to a member's family, school, community, and Boys & Girls Club, as well as personal challenges and obstacles overcome; and

WHEREAS, By being an active member in her Club, Miss Sharp was chosen to represent the Club in leadership and entrepreneurial conferences, in which she lectured on topics concerning youth; she is a member of the Keystone Club, a teen group that practices leadership through learning and community service, and she participates in all core programs at the Club; she also volunteers with the Club's homework assistance program, which led to her being hired as program assistant in the social and recreational area; her involvement with the Club has deemed her a leader and role model to other youth; and

WHEREAS, She attends Alton High School and participates in many extracurricular activities, including the Lewis and Clark Community College Upward Bound program, track, basketball, and tennis; she has volunteered at nursing homes, participated in community clean-ups in elderly communities, school zones, and impoverished neighborhoods, and tutored fourth grade elementary students; she has a true concern for others and a strong willingness to better her community; and

WHEREAS, Miss Sharp will compete against other youth from states located in BGCA's Midwest Region; regional winners will then advance to the national competition in Washington, D.C.; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Reyniesha Sharp on being named the Youth of the Year for the State of Illinois by Boys & Girls Clubs of America; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Miss Sharp as an expression of our esteem.
