HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The institution of marriage is one of the cornerstones upon which our society is built, and a marriage that has achieved a notable longevity is truly a model for the people of the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor Tom Miller and Lois Miller on the celebration of their 50-year wedding anniversary; Tom and Lois met in McCool, Mississippi as teenagers and were married in Chicago on January 14, 1957, by the late Reverend David A. Williams; they will celebrate their anniversary on June 24, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Tom pursued a career at Ceco Steel and later retired from RC Cola in 1998; Lois pursued a career in cosmetology and subsequently opened her own business of 47 years, L & L Beauty Salon; and

WHEREAS, The Millers have been pillars in their community, Tom as a Deacon for over 40 years, and Lois as a Mother with the Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church; they were founding members and helped organize their community block club; the past 10 years they have resided in Westchester and continue to be actively involved in their community; and

WHEREAS, Born to their union were their daughters, Sherby, Linda, Tammy, and Sheree; they have four grandchildren, Jacqueline, Jermie, Bianca, and DiJona; and they have two great-grandchildren, Destiny & Jeremiah; their home is a place filled with Christian love, as can be attested by the numerous Godchildren and the adults that have adopted them as their parents; they always have enough love to go around; and

WHEREAS, The respect for marriage reaches one of its highest plateaus when a couple such as Tom and Lois celebrate their golden wedding anniversary; Tom and Lois stand as examples of the best of our society, and their love and devotion to each other and to their family and friends serve as a reminder to all that hard work, dedication, and love can make a difference in today's world; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Tom Miller on the occasion of their fiftieth wedding anniversary; that we commend them for achieving a long and happy marriage, blessed with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and rich in friendships; and that we wish them happiness and good health in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Tom and Lois Miller as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
