HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate the current and
4 former members of the Zion Woman's Club in Zion as they
5 celebrate the 100th anniversary of the organization; and
 
6     WHEREAS, On October 25, 1907 a meeting was held to organize
7 a club for women in the City of Zion; the Bay View Reading Club
8 was formed and the first president was Mrs. R. B. Miller; and
 
9     WHEREAS, The group met four times a year to sew, socialize,
10 and enjoy a brief program; dues at that time were $1.00; and
 
11     WHEREAS, The Club joined the State Federation of Women's
12 Clubs in 1909 and changed the name of their organization to the
13 Zion City Woman's Club; at this time they began to get involved
14 and take an interest in civic affairs; and
 
15     WHEREAS, The Club was admitted to the General Federation of
16 Women's Clubs in 1914; and
 
17     WHEREAS, In 1948 the name was changed to the Zion Woman's
18 Club; dues were $5.00 and the membership was limited to 150
19 women; in 1957 the Golden Anniversary Meeting was held, with
20 guests and past presidents in attendance; and

1     WHEREAS, In 1976 the Club placed a square in the
2 Federation's Centennial quilt and made their own quilt to be
3 raffled as a fundraiser to commemorate the country's
4 bicentennial year; and
 
5     WHEREAS, In 1992 the Zion Woman's Club celebrated its 85th
6 year and prepared a club cookbook to commemorate the event; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Members have found great personal satisfaction in
8 working together on fundraising projects to provide financial
9 aid when needed; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Members have won recognition through the
11 Federation for entries in special contests for arts and crafts,
12 creative writing, music, and scrapbooks; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Though throughout the years the dues have
14 increased, the club records reveal that generous donations have
15 been made to charitable organizations and civic projects;
16 therefore, be it
 
17     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
19 congratulate the women of the Zion Woman's Club on the
20 centennial anniversary of the organization and wish them

1 nothing but the best in the future; and be it further
 
2     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to the members of the Zion Woman's Club as a symbol
4 of our respect and esteem.
