HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Greg DeCourcey,
4 baseball coach for Marquette Catholic High School, on achieving
5 his 600th career win at the school on April 19, 2007; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Greg DeCourcey led the Marquette Catholic High
7 School Explorers to an 8-7 victory over host Jerseyville in an
8 eight-inning nonconference game to mark his 600th victory as
9 coach; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Greg DeCourcey was a three-sport athlete at Valley
11 High, a consolidated school near Canton; after graduating from
12 Canton Community College, he went to Southern Illinois
13 University in Edwardsville and found a permanent home in
14 Southwestern Illinois; he became the baseball coach at
15 Marquette Catholic High School in 1977; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Greg DeCourcey, the
17 Explorers have made seven State tournament appearances, with
18 State championship wins in 1980 and 1984; they have acquired 15
19 regional championships and seven sectional titles; the
20 Explorers have compiled 16 seasons of 20 or more victories and
21 won a pair of South Central Conference championships; Coach
22 DeCourcey has been to the Class A State Finals more times than

1 any other coach; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Greg DeCourcey's 600th career win places him in
3 the top 20 among prep coaches in State history and is a
4 testament to his incredible skills as coach; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 congratulate Greg DeCourcey on his 600th career win and wish
8 him continued success in the future; and be it further
 
9     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to Greg DeCourcey as an expression of our respect.
